With the recognised crisis in learning and skills development faced by the country, the availability of more institutions and organisations capable of contributing to on-the-job training is essential to help meet the personnel requirements of business. It is against this backdrop that the South African Institute of Professional Accountants has announced its accreditation as a Quality Assurance Partner (QAP) of the Finance, Accounting, Management Consulting & other Financial Services (FASSET) Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA).
According to Angela Forrest, Compliance & Quality Assurance Specialist at SAIPA, the accreditation provides independent verification of the organisation’s ability to provide education and training to an accepted standard. “Among the key activities undertaken by SAIPA is the continuous development of our members, equipping them to perform well on the job and to add value to their clients. As an accredited QAP, we have complied with the rigorous criteria set by our SETA in alignment with the National Qualifications Framework objectives,” she says.
But what is most important, stresses Forrest, is the benefit that accrues to learners who study SAIPA courses. “Through this process of partnership with FASSET and the subsequent accreditation, our learners are assured of the credibility of their qualification. That combines with flexibility in gaining the appropriate experience and the legitimacy of their further training in the workplace through the achievement of a qualification,” she says. Forrest adds that SAIPA also provides a definitive method for students to progress in their training, as well as the option of applying for recognition for what they have already achieved in the workplace, through a recognised Recognition of Prior Learning process.
“The QAP accreditation means FASSET is satisfied that we are capable of taking responsibility for some aspects of its Education and Training Quality Assurance functions. This is a rigorous set of criteria set by the body and which now covers many areas of SAIPA policies and procedures, aligning them to a standard appropriate to the sector,” she explains.
By achieving this accreditation, Forrest says SAIPA can wear the badge of a FASSET QAP with confidence and pride. “We now know that our Accredited Training Centres are delivering training which is of a recognised standard. That, in turn, means our members benefit from sound and relevant learning, which ultimately contributes to the skills shortage faced by businesses while equipping our members to advance their careers. Furthermore, with FASSET monitoring our policies and processes, we will be set on a path of continuous improvement,” Forrest concludes.
