in line with technological developments and changes since the last revision in 2002.
Every four to five years, the World Customs Organisation, (WCO) revises the harmonised system to keep

SARS is in full swing with its ""National PAYE Medical Aid Investigation - Period 01/03/1998 to
29/02/2006"". This national enforcement initiative aims to audit more than 22 000 employers for an
eight-year period using modern audit techniques and information obtained from your medical aid
providers.
Employers will be assessed for the full taxable value relating to benefits other than medical aid,
such as Vitality, insurance policies, leisure benefits, retirement funding, life cover, funeral cover,
and money-market savings that were funded by contributions made to the medical aid fund company.

Where is the tax planning done? Who is ultimately responsible for the tax planning in the
corporation?

Tax Risk Management
|
|
The ultimate responsibility lies with the CEO and the CFO. They are responsible for creating the best
shareholder value possible, under the circumstances. They cannot do so if their tax planning is
defective.
They in turn, must be guided by the board, audit committee and risk committee. These entities, in
turn, obtain all relevant information from the Tax Team and their tax strategic plan.
