TAXtalk July 2007
Week 3
This Week in TAXtalk
Dear Subscriber,
The South African Revenue Service announced in a press release on their website, www.sars.gov.za, the posting of the new simpler, shorter tax return to those individual taxpayers for whom SARS has a verified address.

Tax returns have been sent to the South African Post Office and will be delivered to taxpayers around the country. By the end of July almost 4 million IT12 S and IT12C returns will have been mailed. The IT12S is the standard income tax return for individuals who earn a salary with basic allowances such as pension, medical and travel. The IT12C is the comprehensive return which covers additional sources of income and deductions including capital gains/losses, business and rental income and farming income.
An article in issue 6 of the TAXtalk magazine quotes the minister of finance as saying, even those who found the (tax return) process complicated and hated forms like he did will be able to fill in the new one.

A top business publication claims that their magazine is a "nice to have" but TAXtalk is a "must have" for any business. A recent Readership survey revealed that 89% of our readers file the magazine for future reference. Proof that TAXtalk is a valuable resource to reference for both current and historical tax issues, being informed about vital tax updates and the latest developments at SARS is of critical importance to anyone working within the tax field. Subscribing to TAXtalk magazine guarantees that you stay on the cutting edge.

Nazrien Kader, Head of Taxation Services at Deloitte in KwaZulu-Natal
Given my involvement in the world of taxation over the past 12 years, I have to admit that it has evolved dramatically. Taxpayers have certainly become more vigilant about their obligations to SARS. Whilst many still adopt an intuitive approach to tax management, the fact that tax is by far the largest expense on the income statement, has warranted a change in the way taxpayers view taxes in general.
