Discourse with SARS is primarily about facts. Pierre du Toit, tax consultant at KPMG, discussed this on Tax Issues, broadcast on Summit TV.

Pierre suggested that, in discourse with SARS, taxpayers too often sallied forth with legal argument, forgetting that the law can only work for them if applied to the actual facts of their case. When they are forced back to facts, they find that what they thought were facts were something else, or that they cannot prove them.
